MODULE 1
Strategic Project Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Designing Value-Driven Projects in VUCA World
In today’s rapidly changing business landscape, project management is no longer just about delivering outputs on time and within budget—it’s about creating real, measurable value.
Explore how project management is evolving from delivering outputs to achieving meaningful outcomes and lasting impact. This module introduces practical tools to define project value in a VUCA world, align project strategy with organizational agility, and build business cases that drive sustainable success. You can find a broader explanation of these topics in my video on the left.
Fundamentals of Project Management
This course builds on a foundational understanding of project management principles. Participants are expected to be familiar with the key knowledge areas—such as scope, time, cost, quality, risk, and stakeholder management—as well as the main project management processes. These include developing a project charter, defining objectives, and preparing a high-level project plan.
A basic grasp of these concepts will help participants engage more effectively with the course content, which focuses on applying modern and agile approaches to create greater project value.
In this assessment, you will develop and submit your project’s Output, Outcome, and Impact Statements, demonstrating your understanding of how projects create value at different levels. You can select one of the provided project charters or define your own. Following the submission, you will participate in a one-on-one interview with the instructor to discuss your statements, explore alignment with your organizational context, and receive personalized feedback on refining your strategic thinking.
Guidelines for the Activity
Sample Project & Output/Outcome/Impact Statements
The examples on the right illustrate how Output, Outcome, and Impact Statements can be developed to reflect different levels of project value. Each statement connects project activities to broader organizational objectives, showing how tangible results (outputs) lead to meaningful changes (outcomes) and, ultimately, to lasting benefits or strategic impact.
These samples are intended to guide your thinking, not to serve as templates to copy. As you review them, focus on how each statement:
Clearly defines what success looks like at each level,
Demonstrates logical alignment between the project purpose and organizational goals, and
Uses concise, measurable language to express value creation.
When preparing your own statements, consider your project’s unique context, stakeholders, and long-term vision. The goal is to articulate how your project contributes not only to deliverables but also to sustainable outcomes and strategic impact.
